Upcoming Workshops

Oil Workshop: April 18-19th, 2020

"Oil Painting for Artists New to the Medium"

with Ruth Rodgers, MPAC

This workshop is designed to support a transition to oils from other media (pastels, watercolour, acrylics) and will focus on understanding and using supports, paints, solvents, mediums, and tools associated with oils. It is best suited to intermediate/advanced painters with experience in another medium. Good painting practices (such as concept, composition, and value planning) will be included, as will an extended session on colour mixing. This is a studio class, working from students' own photo references.

Oil/Acrylic Workshop: May 8-9th, 2020

"Applying the Zorn Palette to Portraiture"

with Brian Smith

Brian Smith will return to the County to teach portraiture using the Zorn palette on Friday May 8 and Saturday May 9, 2020. Anders Zorn (1860-1920) is arguably Sweden's most important painter. Throughout most of his illustrious portrait career he limited himself to a very simple palette of just four tubes (Vermillion, Yellow Ochre, Titanium White and a blue black). By utilizing this seemingly basic palette, the decisions around colour, intensity, and value became much simpler.  Perfect flesh tones are easily achieved.  Artists will work in acrylic or oil (odourless solvents only please) or water soluble oils.

Stay tuned for more information.
